A black-tie luxury wedding in Bologna

How often do we get the chance to have a bride (or groom) who has Italian origins? It happens. It also happens that they choose to have their wedding in the area from where their ancestors are. Often this takes us to rural districts more than to bigger towns but more or less in well-known regions like Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast or the area around Venice.

There was therefore a different feeling to receiving an email from a bridal couple asking for a luxury wedding in Bologna. Bologna isn’t very well known to the public, apart from the appassionate of Ducati and Ferrari – and apart from being famous for the tagliatelle alla Bolognese (the long pasta with meatsauce, praised by pasta lovers allover the world).

The couple wanted nothing but the best. Choosing Palazzo Albergati set the level for the celebration of their luxury wedding in Bologna which took place on a beautiful day full of sunshine, joy and love. The guests invited were from all over the world – more than a dozen of countries were represented among the invitations – the dress code was a formal black-tie, suitable for the importance of the palace and the tuxedos tailor-made in Italy for a more personal feeling to the whole celebration. This is the video of their wedding day.

However, bride and groom had decided to make their luxury wedding in Bologna a lifetime experience for everyone, so during the week before the wedding tours, activities and dinners had been arranged in order to pamper their guests and make them feel special.

To all of us who surrounded the couple and the guests during the preparation and the wedding days, this experience is one of those experiences that remains forever. In my heart I will always bear the words uttered when the bridal couple came up to see the Salon of Honour right before dinner. All they were able to utter was “Wow!” And then after a minute or two where they just stood there, the groom turned and said “I’m speechless!” See for yourselves what he saw…enjoy this special video made for two special people.

A boho-inspired garden wedding in Tuscany, June 2013

L and D’s garden wedding in Tuscany in June, 2013, was one of the absolut most beautiful weddings I had coordinated until then. L had been working since eons on the inspiration board – and that was easy to tell as she knew exactly how she wanted the look and the feeling of their wedding to be.

Full of color with a lovely color palette of hot pink, purple, yellow, orange and aqua, with amazing touches from the couple’s many trips around the world, an incredible photo wall and the most beautiful view during both the ceremony and the dinner – this garden wedding in Tuscany furthermore featured a fabulously looking couple so much in love that it was impossible not to be happy for them.

And the weather, which had been creating worries for me up till the weekend before the wedding, actually behaved extremely well. So well that the videographers were beaming with joy as they ran back and forth shooting continuously as the light continued to change becoming more and more beautiful for each minute passing by. Hosting the garden wedding in Tuscany with the weather we had had during spring was actually quite risky. Therefore being able to sit outside for the whole evening was much more than we had expected and such an incredible gift for the bridal couple.

L and D, I wish you all the best, every blessing and lots of love and laughter on your way throughout your life together as husband and wife. I will treasure these moments we’ve shared and hope that, if there will be a possibility in the future, we can meet again. I will be pleased to offer a nice Italian “espresso” so please give me a call should your way lead to Italy again.

Cheers – here is to you!

An olive grove wedding in Tuscany

An olive grove wedding in Tuscany

It can be challenging when bride and groom have already chosen the villa for the reception before consulting their wedding planner. Many times you simply choose from the heart, not thinking of the logistical issues that might occur. You fall in love, you choose and you sign – then come the “issues” just afterwards.

When T and J contacted me, they already had been planning part of the wedding – that is, they had chosen the villa which was going to host the reception. But they hadn’t been giving much of a thought to how the wedding would be pulled off and where everything was supposed to happen.

That is my job. So as we started talking about where to put what and when I immediately found out that it wasn’t possible to host everything on the wonderful panorama terrace from where you could see far away. We had to get creative. And so I figured out that it might be a good idea to focus the attention on the olive grove surrounding the villa. We asked for permission to host the ceremony here with people sitting on haybales while listening – and this was granted. After the ceremony, the guests would then enjoy appetizers and drinks by the pool and further on also the seated dinner on the panoramic terrace.

For this wedding in Tuscany the weather almost blew up all of our gorgeous planning. However, it wasn’t until the day after that thunder and rain struck the area – we were so extremely lucky to be able to host everything as we had planned.

T and J, I was so happy to be part of your amazing wedding in Tuscany. I hope that your life as man and wife will be long and blessed. Whenever in Italy, give me a call so that we can have coffee…

A luxury wedding in Venice

A luxury wedding in Venice

When I was contacted by L and B with regards to a luxury wedding in Venice, I was really in awe. I knew L from one of the groups on Facebook but had absolutely no idea that she could be wanting a wedding in Venice when getting married.

Nor did I know that they wanted to elope, to be just the two of them during their wedding day. But to begin their honeymoon in Italy getting married on Italian ground was what they were dreaming of. Furthermore they really wanted to make their wedding something special, so we decided to go for nothing but the best Venice could offer: A luxury venue to host the ceremony, a water taxi for transport the whole day, a lagoon cruise during which they had champagne and wedding cake, photographer and video crew…nothing was too good to make their dream of a luxury wedding in Venice come true.

It was amazing to see how the two of them enjoyed being together, how they took in all the various situations occurring during their wedding day. And when finally L decided to toss her bridal bouquet, we gathered a dozen of girls just passing by, around her allowing her to “pass the token”.

But most fabulous of all was the encounter with the Moslem girls in their chadors. That was an incredible moment. These three women in black were attracted to the bride and I urged them to get their photos taken with the bridal couple. Such a sweet moment as they understood what I meant and immediately got out their camera and got a couple of shots.

To L and B I can only say thank you for having me helping you get the luxury wedding in Venice you wanted. It was awesome being at your side to see the love you share. I wish all the best for your future – I am sure that you are going to have many, many wonderful experiences together. Finding your soulmate is rare – once found, you need to take good care of him/her…

I’ve got weddings in Italy on my mind…

Speaking of weddings in Italy…look who’s back!

Little me – after just a couple of months of absolute, complete, total silence.

I’ve been SO BUSY running around the peninsula fixing weddings. And it has been great being in contact with all those wonderful brides out there – I’m sorry to having left you behind, but now I am back and big news are on their way!

First of all: The blog gets its own url. Oh yes, sir – I’ve already bought the new domain and I have people working on the switch-over. Hopefully it won’t take too long, I am so excited about this!

Second, but not less important: This major change in our strategy means that we will have a brand new layout as well. But please…let’s not start talking about that or I take off immediately. I can hardly wait to get all the designwork finished and to check out the final texture of the new blog…it’s going to be AWESOME!!

Third…well, other new features and possibilities regarding weddings in Italy are coming up. One of these has to do with the possibility of hosting weddings in Italy in a beautiful villa in the northern part of the country, another has to do with a typical Tuscan farmhouse, another offers the option of a Venetian wedding, or a ceremony in Verona…there are going to be so many great options for you to choose from that you will hardly knnow what to settle on. I am going to show you fabulous opportunities for weddings, so keep your eyes peeled.

And fourth – I’ll take you peeking into some of the weddings in Italy I’ve had during the last months. Right now I’ll just let you have a sneak peek into a couple of them so that you get an idea of what will be waiting for you within shortly…

– we’ll have a glance backstage at a wedding in Venice…

This wedding was gorgeously fabulous and I feel so blessed for having been able to pull it together for bride and groom! You’ll discover why within the shortest possible time!

I won’t say any more word – I’ve already said more than enough!!

And then we’ll take a…hey, what does Snow White and her apples have to do with a wedding????

– I guess that you’ll have to see for yourselves. It is one of my favorite weddings in Italy of the whole year up till now, so full of gags and fun stuff that you’d better be ready for that one ;-)

I have the feeling that you’ve got more than enough to think about – and I have to run as I need to go check out how the work in progress on the blog site is proceeding! I’ll be in touch soonest, I’ve got a couple of details to show to you – you wouldn’t want to miss out on those, would you?

I’ll be out enjoying some lovely weddings in Italy,

Wedding signs: Here comes the bride…

It’s very early and I am preparing for today’s set-up of tomorrow’s wedding – and for tonight’s wine dinner…many things going on here, so better get up early to get something done…

Hope that you are having a great day, and before letting you go for the weekend, I just wanted to share a couple of images that I find to be just fabulous: The detail of tofay’s “For Your Eyes Only” Friday is wedding signs.

They seem to be getting rather popular, and instead of having your flower girl(s) toss petals in front of you, why not choose to announce in a fun way that you are about to make your grand entrance? The effect is very interesting, and sometimes the little ones aren’t too intimidated by the fact of preceding you like this. Especially because they can be more girls helping out carrying, A great solution especially if there are many girls that you would like/need to include in your processional.

(credits)

The sign that you choose would need to match your overall theme and style, but apart from this you can choose any size, decor and writing that you care for.

 (credits)

If you send more flower girls down the aisle together, you are bound to hear a bunch of “Aaaaww”s from the crowd. An easy way to wow your guests, don’t you think?

(credits)

So, the ceremony is over and it is time to start recessional. Why not let your flower girls recess first, carrying a new sign to announce that you from now on intend to be be incredibly happy?

(credits)

And finally, as a cute treat for your album, get a couple of photos with your sign in a beautiful place. It only takes a minute and you will not regret that you did it!

(credits)

Oh, my, time’s up – I’ve got to run so that we can get things running here. Thinki about it – isn’t it worth the while to think about having announcements like this?

– of course, you are not forced to use the classical wording. Choose your own according to your style and personality – and enjoy people’s reactions to it. (If you do, please share your creations, I’d be more than happy to see what you are able to find out…!)

I’ll better get going. Have a great weekend – keep calm and have an Italian wedding planner ;-)

Wedding theme: Travelling

Oh, it’s Wednesday again, I am enjoying a hot and humid day in Wisconsin, US, and here comes one of my favorite posts, the one about travelling as a theme. You know how I love to take inspiration from anywhere I can – and as I am currently travelling around the globe to catch up with new trends, I thought it might be a good idea to share a little inspiration as regarding to wedding themes.

There are so many possibilities when choosing a theme for your wedding, so you will have to select one that really represents you. That is where I thought about what I would choose should I be a bride. And I found out that the theme that represents me the most as a person would be travelling. (This theme is also the preferred one of one of the lovely brides with whom I have been talking lately – look out, dear, many gorgeous details here for you to enjoy ;-) ))

What would you think of having globes as your centerpieces instead of the more normal flowers? Doesn’t that sound fabulous?

(credits)

Use an old suitcase as the receiver for your “guest book” – which is created from vintage post cards on which the guests write a short note and sign their names. A great way of celebrating your passion for travelling.

(credits)

Vintage suitcases could also be used for your floral arrangements and look just gorgeous on your gift table, next to your candy buffet or as a backdrop for your wedding cake.

(credits)

Guest favors could be marked with these cool bagage tags – how I jsut adore the succulents, such a gorgous present for your guests to take home. And a great symbol for and a good way of remembering your big day as many succulents tend to get very old…exactly what you would want for your marriage.

(credits)

And that is all for today, dearest friends, I’m going to hit the ground running as I’ve got to prepare the wine dinners on Friday and help out preparing the wedding on Saturday. There is lots of work to do, better get moving. You take care while I’m away, okay?

Dreamy wedding destinations: Get married in Florence

Florence… (Or Firenze, if you want it the Italian way.)  Just the name of this place is able to make many perople sigh and want to come to Italy to get married in Florence at once. Because Florence is, like Venice, one of the “must-see” places in the whole Italian peninsula. And once you’ve been there, you can easily understand why it is so famous.

Home to the Uffizi, the famous art museum where works of world-known artists like Giotto, Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli and Michelangelo are to be found, this city ranks among the most visited places in the world and is also on the list of places that people return to because of the great cultural, architectural and artistical patrimony.

All year long thousands of tourists from every part of the globe come to admire monuments like the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (Saint Mary of the Flower), masterpiece of architecture known throughout the world, and the wonderful octagonal Battistero dedicated to San Giovanni Battista (the baptistry of Saint John the Baptist. Saint John is the patron saint for Florence, as he is for eg. Genoa.)

Another lovely must-see place is the Ponte Vecchio, the old covered bridge crossing the Arno river. The making of the first bridge dates back to the ancient Romans, while the one you will see when visiting Florence “only” dates back to the middle of the 14th century.

In origin the stores were dedicated to the butchers and the people selling meat. The reason for this was that any waste could be thrown directly into the river and the bad smell would not bother the citizens. It was only at the end of the 16th century that the Duke of Florence ordered that kind of commerce be transferred to another part of town and jewellers take over the stores on the bridge. The reason for this decision? The Duke had his residence very close to the bridge and didn’t like the odeour coming from the area!

Anywhere you go in the historical center of Florence, you’ll be enjoying the architectural mixture: Renaissance palaces, Roman churches and baroque fountains are just some of the ingredients that make Florence so interesting from an architectural point of view.

Once you get to Florence, you simply cannot miss out on the fabulous sight of the city by night. It is amazing to see how it is transformed by lights and shadows, turning into a different place to explore. Please remember to enjoy both the important piazza‘s (squares) as well as taking a trip up-hill to look out on the river and on the city. It is a sight that you will not easily forget.

To get married in Florence is a dream coming true of many a bridal couple. And it surely is a wonderful experience to say your “I Do”s in the Red Hall. With centuries of history as the backdrop for your vows, you are sure to have memories for a lifetime.

You could also choose to get married in Florence on a roof-top terrace. That makes a great “frame” as well. Especially when you are able to get Santa Maria del Fiore as a backdrop… A more contemporary and less formal feeling to your wedding in Florence.

Speaking about weddings, the city and the area around Florence is full of fabulous wedding venues. Wonderful elegant villas, chic country houses and rustic, traditional trattoria‘s (the typical Italian family-run restaurant where you eat as if you were guest in a private home) are just waiting to welcoming you. Whether you want your reception to be an upscaled luxury experience or reflect the true Italian way of eating, we will find a solution able to satisfy your expectations.

Get it personal – choose a different ceremony backdrop

I think that we all know the importance of having a beautiful ceremony backdrop. Something unique that will make your guests go wow when they come to your wedding. In this sense for their backdrop, brides often ask for arbors, arches and panoramas. Many come with ideas that they have found online, through designers like Preston Bailey, Colin Cowie and David Tutera. Marvelously looking ceremony settings, I totally agree.

(credits)

Lately I’ve seen many different kinds of settings for “the perfect ceremony”, one more beautiful than the other. It’s amazing how much gorgeous fabrice, countless flowers and beautiful chairs can do to create a stunning ambience for your “I do”s.

Nevertheless, though, I felt that I wasn’t searching for these backdrops as inspiration for one of my upcoming brides. I needed “something else”. But what to look for?

So, as usual when I am in need for inspiration, I took a stroll in a place that had absolutely nothing to do with weddings: A flea market. Perfect when you have to get creative and let your mind do its work properly.

And there it stroke me. I knew what kind of backdrop I would go looking for. I only had to find some suitable images for the bride. (Below you can see a selection of what I sent her…)

(credits)

Needless to say that these ceremony settings are different from the classic idea of a wow-effect. Nevertheless, I find them to be equally fabulous and I surely hope that my bride will like what I have found for her. I’ll keep you posted on this subject, it could be quite interesting to follow, I think.

Well, it’s time for me to get going. Today there is lots of work to be done stateside and I cannot wait to get my hands onto it. In the meantime, while I work, you have a great weekend and please think of this idea: Would you like a totally different ceremony backdrop for your wedding?

How to get a luxury wedding in Italy

Well, this is the first post from overseas: I’m in the US again to learn about the latest trends, get to meet awesome colleagues and vendors, chat with wonderful brides, get some wedding shopping done, promote the idea of “the luxury wedding in Italy” and, last but not least, learn more about how to serve my American clients better.

Therefore, as I am out of office and away from my normal work environment, busy learning, buong new gorgeousness and getting better just for your benefits, I will probably not be able to post regularly as I would like to. But I promise that I will keep you informed on what I get to do over here, it’s going to be fun. So much is boiling in my pot…these days I feel terribly blessed for all what I receive from life.

One of the first things that hit me as soon as I arrived was the way Americans use light to decorate their rooms. I LOVE lighting – I think that it is among the most important, if not THE most important, wow-factor in any wedding or event.

NB. Having a photographer capable of capturing these wow-factors is extremely important and I strongly recommend that you get a true professional for that part. But that is another part of a luxury wedding in Italy that we will talk about later on!

If you want to understand what I mean when talking about fabulous lighting, take a look below. These images say more than words – thanks also to the photographers who did the shots. LOVE!!

I find these photos so gorgeous! But don’t forget that some of the most beautiful lighting effects you get by using candlelight and natural lights… Just remember that once the sun sets, you’ll be almost in the dark, if you haven’t foreseen additional lighting.

Remember: If you are having a luxury wedding in Italy lighting is a must if you really want to wow your guests! What do you think of this?
